Drowning in the fear Is my privilege Rising from the ashes The longest fire My life You’re still drowning in In the waters Which lay stagnant and You can’t get out Don’t try While I fight For my life But I can’t stop now The best is yet to come Don’t forget You can’t stop now Home is where the heart is I wanna drift away from the shore Till I can’t see the land anymore So many miles under my feet Home is where the heart is Home is where the heart is I hear the words whisper in my ear Keep moving forward, don’t stop here Day by day I crave the lay of the land Out on the road It’s time It's time to come home Home is where the heart is I wanna drift away from the shore Till I can’t see the land anymore So many miles under my feet Home is where the heart is I wanna drift away from the shore Till I can’t see the land anymore So many miles under my feet Home is where the heart is Home is where the heart is Home is where the heart is

Friday night we are up all night I don't think she'll be alright She's not what you think she's like Trying to hide the devil from your eyes The next thing you know, it's 8am Everyone here, speaking in whispers Something's not right with all my friends Hiding in shadows, our skin is changing colors See things aren't the way they seem False dreams you once had of me I can't seem to find the light I can't find my way home at night The next thing you know, it's 8am Everyone here, speaking in whispers Something's not right with all my friends Hiding in shadows, our skin is changing colors The next thing you know, it's 8am Everyone here, speaking in whispers Something's not right with all my friends Hiding in shadows, our skin is changing colors

The days are long And the nights are restless So long old friends I can no longer fix this I haven’t had a dream Like this in such a long time Been trying to save the world Between my vodka sodas and lime And I don’t think I can save this world from this darkness (And I) I don’t think I can save you From your wretched gloom and doom (And I) I don’t think we can hide From this emptiness (Because) When I sleep It’s like a dream come true

I'm just new here Just having a drink here But I've been hanging 'round Watching every game in town And whose dealing in What ifs and maybes And a whole lot of been theres and I walked away No one is saving There's a genius at the bar Bearing battle wounds and scars And growing thin A good woman can't save you A good man won't fight When you're sliding off your bar stool And you head out in the night A good woman can't save you A good man won't fight And it's rainy and it's cold Is Portland feeling old to you tonight And it's rainy and it's cold Is Portland feeling old to you tonight And the bar tab tells the tale Make the most of what's not happening Pretending not to fail And this break in time is growing long And your narrative in the storyline Is barely holding on A good woman can't save you A good man won't fight When you're sliding off your bar stool And you head out in the night A good woman can't save you A good man won't fight And it's rainy and it's cold Is Portland feeling old to you tonight And it's rainy and it's cold Is Portland feeling old to you tonight And it's rainy and it's cold Is Portland feeling old to you tonight

The Sun 04:26
I wish I was the sun I’d travel ‘round the world I wish I could become, Something really strong, I wouldn’t need no one I wish I had a son Counting backwards from one He wished he had a gun He’d shoot up the world, but then he shot his own I wish I was the sun, I travel ‘round the world in one day And when I was tired, I’d go home and sleep in my bed I wish I could become, Something really strong And when I got old, I wouldn’t need no one I wish I had a song, I’d teach the world to sing In perfect harmony, growing apple trees He wished he had a gun, he’d shoot up the world But then he got tired and he shot his own I wish I was still fun a smile on my face, bubbly and young I wish I had a gun, I’d shoot myself in the head, and then I’d wake up from the dead I wish I could become, one with the dead, and fill their stories in my head I wish I was the sun, I travel ‘round the world in one day And when I was tired, I’d go home and sleep in my bed I wish I could become, Something really strong And when I got old, I wouldn’t need no one I wish I had a song, I’d teach the world to sing In perfect harmony, growing apple trees He wished he had a gun, he’d shoot up the world But then he got tired and he shot his own

about

Home Is Where The Heart Is is the debut by The Depressionistas.
The Depressionistas met right before a worldwide pandemic hit.

Like minded and mining their influences from the archives of 80’s, 90’s, Goth, Folk, Post-Punk and Hard Rock, The Depressionistas reside in the juxtapositions in melody and aggression, embracing the contrasts in song. Gallows humor and resolute in vision, The Depressionistas were then born in a pandemic, making art while the world shut down. Covid circles and late nights default when everything’s stopped-and yet, there suddenly was the time. Time necessary to explore without pressure of public eyes or public consumption. Turning a moment of distress and uncertainty into opportunity for focusing on what is relevant, The Depressionistas turned to making music to reflect that. From first meeting through mutual friends online, to collaborating in person, The Depressionistas are comprised of and Moushumi Ghose, Jarrod Kenney and Michelle Muldrow working out songs around backyard fire-pits and winter cold rehearsals in a coffee supply warehouse in Portland, Oregon, and pooling their individual talents, inspirations and bringing in the likes of other brilliant artists, including Teri Untalan on strings.

Journeying to record in the deep south at DialBack Sound Studios in Water Valley, Mississippi and back to Portland to finish up and put the final touches at Singing Sands Studios .

The adventures then continued as a hesitant world continued to open up- shooting videos along the Washington coast, at neglected cemeteries, empty warehouses.

Every aspect of The Depressionistas is about seizing the moment, even in these dark times among us.

The album reflects these themes. Beginning with the title track, "Home is Where the Heart Is", Moushumi Ghose writes about the existential conflict we feel between the desire to wander aimlessly "drift away" but being tied to a physical home. Sung with soul and depth by Michelle Muldrow with Jarrod Kenney's melodic guitar and harmonied bass riffs round out the track. This theme continues throughout and is seen again in "The Sun," sung and written by Ghose about the conflicting desires within us, humans nomadic desires pulling us away from the safety and security of our own beds.

"Watering Hole" is a beautifully and thought-provoking song about relationships and getting lost in the night after having just arrived to a cold & rainy wintery Portland, soulfully sung and written by Muldrow.

In "R.I.P.", Ghose laments that Rock 'n' Roll just isn't the way it used to be, sung by Ghose with Muldrow on harmonies and soaring guitar sounds by Kenney.

in "When Night Falls" Ghose wrote about the imbalances in our connections to each other, the inability to show up and the loneliness we feel in our darkest hours, belted out by Muldrow with weeping guitars and harmonious bass riffs by Kenney, and an anthem outro of gang vocals that really drives it home.

Ghose and Kenney teamed up lyrically about showing up, fighting, staying the course for your cause while also having some 'Netflix and chill' time in "Rebellion" sung by Ghose & Muldrow.

"This Rapture" captures an experience of sorts, a life of disarray and the reckoning, sung by Ghose and Muldrow.

Lastly, on "Sissy's Lovers" Ghose writes a cautionary tale once again about the late night party life, sung by Muldrow, guitars by Kenney.

From rock, to punk, to post-punk and a little Americana thrown in, the Depressionistas hone their influences to create heavy rocking riffs, melodies and surging gang vocals, to bring their message, their passion for music and rock 'n' roll to the stage.
